About us

TAK-project represents more than just the outcome of international collaboration of Mendel University in the realm of science and education. It serves as a tangible gesture of goodwill, aimed at providing support to academics and students from Ukrainian universities.

The course of Europe’s history changed on February 24, 2022, with the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine’s territory. This invasion posed a challenge not only to the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, but also to the shared values and foundations of Europe.

The military conflict has resulted in immense losses for the Ukrainian people. Higher education institutions in Ukraine have been destroyed in the areas of conflict. The devastating circumstances have compelled academic staff and students to seek refuge in European countries in order to continue their research and studies. One such country is the Czech Republic, particularly its university community, which has taken a proactive stance in supporting their Ukrainian colleagues.

From the early days of the conflict, Mendel University in Brno has opened its doors to professors and students from various cities in Ukraine, providing shelter for seven teachers and over forty-five students. These individuals hail from cities such as Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Irpin, and Kremenchuk. The Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Economics has created a friendly and supportive environment to facilitate the integration of Ukrainians into the university’s scientific, educational, and social life.

Mendel University in Brno (MENDELU) is a public institution with a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research that has driven new ways of thinking since 1919 and proudly bears the name of Gregor Johann Mendel, the founder of modern genetics.

MENDELU offers more than 100 graduate degree programmes in the Czech and English languages.

MENDELU comprises one university institute and five faculties. The modern university campus is located in Brno, the second-largest city in the Czech Republic, the heart of Europe. Brno is one of the best student cities in the world.
